CLUB REGISTRATION

A club has to be registered with the State Association to participate in any 2009 Michigan AAU Boys Basketball state tournament. It should be noted that your contact person must first have a membership prior to applying for a club membership. Club registration is completed on-line at the National AAU Boys Basketball website, www.aauboysbasketball.org. Clubs can consist of one or more teams in the same age division or in different age divisions. There is no limit to the number of teams allowed to play under one club banner.

A club membership is valid for only one sport (unless a multi-sport membership is obtained.) The club membership is good for one year (September 1, 2008 - August 31, 2009).

GETTING STARTED

After you register as a club, you need to:

  1. Find a coach.

  2. Secure a practice site.

  3. Have open tryouts. Announce your tryouts in printed media, either local newspapers or in school publications. Tryout announcements should include time, place and date of tryouts. A contact person and phone number should be indicated, as well as any tryout fee, which would include the cost of an AAU membership card. Tryouts cannot be held until the conclusion of the athlete's school season. 1st grade through 8th grade have different elementary/middle school seasons, however, 9th grade through Seniors tryouts can not be held until the conclusion of the MHSAA State Tournament in March.

  4.

  5. Complete paperwork completed and send in as soon as possible. Fill out player and coach registrations for insurance protection. All players and coaches must be registered prior to tryouts. Sign up for the $14 rate for athletes and $16 rate for coaches.

  6. Calculate a budget and figure your per player cost.

  7. Collect fees from parents.

  8. Send in your 2009 Tournament Request Form and tournament fees to the Boys Basketball Registrar.

  9. Obtain equipment.

  10. Obtain uniforms.

As you can see, it is an easy process. Now you can get started.
